Sunripe Produce offers fresh produce year-round
Douglas Salazar and his family saw a need in his neighborhood. That need was providing a place for the community of North Lansing to have access to fresh produce year round. In 2015 Doug and his family started the planning process to open a market in the neighborhood. After a year of looking at buildings, contacting local farmers and vendors. The Doug and his family were ready for the next step and opened Sunripe Produce October of 2016, located at 3322 N East St, Lansing, MI 48906
When you first walk into Sunripe Produce, the first thing you notice is the fruit and vegetables table. Each item is laid out in a way the is visually pleasing and easy to select the produce that you want. Everyday Doug and his sister go through all the vegetables and fruit inspecting for freshness and quality. Doug states, “We don’t like to waste any product in our store. During our daily inspection if we notice that any fruit or vegetables are getting close to expiring we donate them to Cristo Ray, Volunteers of America or another local charity”.
Currently Sunripe Produce works with 5 Michigan based famers to stock the shelfs with the freshest produce. Along with produce, Doug was happy to fill another need by offering fresh plants and hanging baskets. “It took a little time to find the right fit to offering fresh local plants. It has been a terrific addition to the store for our customers.” said Doug. Along with adding plants to the store, Doug and his sister went through the process to become a UPS Access Point and accept EBT for the north Lansing community. 
When Doug and his family started planning the store they wanted to be involved with the community. Sunripe Produce is proud to work with a local non-profit iDream and provide healthy snacks to a local dance studio.
As the store grows their future plans are to offer Eating Healthy Programs, Cooking classes for Kids and to get more involved with the community.
